This is a detail of a 50s-era postcard from the Fairland Lake Club in Roanoke, VA. Looks like both the mayor (possibly) and the village idiot showed up for the photo shoot.
In the late 50's my Aunt and I walked over from nearby Spring Hill Drive, during the Summer, enjoying the sandy beach, cold water, and Elvis tunes. The spring that feed the lake put out plenty of icy water....is it being used today?

It is actually my great grandfather on the right, Henry C. Giles. He owned the place. The "village idiot" is my great uncle Roy E. Giles. :)
That's terrific! Thanks for the comment.
